Here I am.
Here you are.
Make me new.
The past 2 months, I have been praying this prayer.
There are a few things that stand out when I think about this prayer.
Here is the only place I can ever be.
This is a short, slightly philosophical point. Hang with me.
We cannot be anywhere but the place we currently are. We never see tomorrow; there is only today. We always look to the future or other places than we currently are, but the place we currently inhabit is really the only thing that matters at this present moment.
We can worry and plan for what is to come, but we can only control what we do in the present moment.
This prayer allows us space to remember that truth. We are here.
Right now, I am right here…
This is a reminder and a opportunity to find peace in the present moment.
Here I am.
Here you are.
Make me new.
Jesus is here. He is always here.
It is easy to feel as though Jesus is not always present with us. Sometimes we feel alone. Sometimes we feel our prayers are shouted out in an empty room with no response.
Yet, this prayer reminds me that Jesus has never abandoned me.
6 Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”
Deut 31:6
Jesus is here with me. He is here right now.
Here I am.
Here you are.
Make me new.
Make me new. Jesus restores all things.
When I hear this line, I think often of the passage where God is foretold to make all things new (Rev 21:5; Isa 43).
Jesus will make all things new, but currently he is making me new.
Every time I come into the powerful presence of God, I have the opportunity to become new again. I am being restored and healed by Jesus. I become like him.
Jesus can make me new… right here… right now.
All I have to do is ask and submit to him.
Here I am.
Here you are.
Make me new.
This is a short, quick prayer. Yet, the implications draw from many rich and deep thoughts.
