There’s a story in the New Testament with a woman who constantly bleeds. You can read the story in Mark chapter 5.
This woman who was unclean by Jewish standards should not have touched anyone—especially not a teacher or person of importance.
Often times, when we are messy, our mess can be transferred to others.
I frequently avoid spaghetti, apple sauce, and bananas from getting on me when I clean up my 1 year-olds tray after meal time. His fast hands are always trying their best to share his leftovers all over my shirt or arms.
Messiness, like many sicknesses are transferable. Now that flu season is approaching in the Midwest, I have to be cautious of my surroundings and the people who are near to my young boys.
Yet, this story shows the amazing power and love of our God.
This woman was out in public, unclean and dirty according to her culture’s standards. Her mess was at risk of being spread throughout the crowd that day.
However, Jesus was—and is—more powerful than her mess.
Instead of her mess contaminating Jesus, the power of Jesus cleansed and healed her mess.
This is a simple, yet profound thought.
No matter our mess, Jesus IS able to restore us. Our mess does not scare or frighten him. It is at the mercy of his command just as the winds and waves were on the Sea of Galilee.
Where our mess abounds, his grace abounds even more.
May this encourage you today, Jesus can heal your mess—regardless of its size.
All you have to do, is reach out to him and place your faith in his miraculous power.
