’Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just to take Him at His word;
Just to rest upon His promise;
Just to know, Thus saith the Lord.Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him,
How I’ve proved Him o’er and o’er,
Jesus, Jesus, Precious Jesus!
O for grace to trust Him more.O how sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just to trust His cleansing blood;
Just in simple faith to plunge me,
’Neath the healing, cleansing flood.Yes, ’tis sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just from sin and self to cease;
Just from Jesus simply taking
Life, and rest, and joy, and peace.I’m so glad I learned to trust Thee,
Precious Jesus, Savior, Friend;
And I know that Thou art with me,
Wilt be with me to the end.
I frequently find peace and solace in the words of the hymns.
Today while listening to a hymn medley, this refrain again lifted my spirit toward heaven:
Jesus, Jesus, Precious Jesus!
O for grace to trust Him more.
So often in our modern world, we feel as though we ought to know everything. We live in a world with access to almost every piece of knowledge we could want. At our fingertips lay the knowledge of the world.
Yet, we will not understand God.
We will never know why God allows certain things to happen.
We will never understand why God does not prevent some things from happening to us.
We are forced to live in this unstable and uncertain world, simply trusting in our faithful God.
Praying for the grace to trust God is a daunting task. The older I get, the larger and larger my problems become. Raising kids… Buying a house… my life has many difficulties, each increasing my reliance on God.
You see, it is often difficult to pray for faith and trust in God when there is not a dedicated and thriving relationship preexisting between us and Christ.
Outside of the “rock bottom” moments of life (which we often pray to avoid), we usually do not turn to God and with trust when bad things happen. Personally, I try to fix the situation… get upset… complain… blame others or God… far more often than turning to God with trust.
Yet, Louisa Stead penned these words that we all need deep within our hearts.
Jesus, Jesus, Precious Jesus!
O for grace to trust Him more.
Oh that I would have peace to rest on his promise and the faithfulness to continually put my trust in him.
May the beauty of the hymns draw you back to Jesus and point you to his love.
