Parents, I am just going to be blunt.
Our families are too busy.
My family has two boys under the age of 2 and we already run around like crazy. That is with no formal activities like sports or music.
Our families are too busy to follow Jesus well.
We pack our days so full that they never have time to rest, reflect or reach out to God.
When I am super busy, it is common for me to lay down in my bed at night and say, “Wow! I don’t think I prayed or though about God much today.”
Why is that? We are too busy to think about God.
If we are too busy to think about God, then we are definitely too busy to be transformed by him.
The busier we are, the less like Jesus we look.
If you want to read about busyness, John Mark Comer has a book that gives a good understanding of the importance of rest and emilmatniong of busyness in our lives. You can get The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry here. (It’s the red cover!)
“Hurry is the root problem underneath so many of the symptoms of toxicity in our world.”
– John Mark Comer
Parents, we need to really take account of how busy our lives our. Our kids are being taught to never stop running.
We are so buys that we don’t make time for church, praying, reading our Bibles… Our kids will never learn to make time for God if they are too busy doing other things.
Our busyness is competing with God for our lives.
Use my worksheet provided below to evaluate how busy you are. This worksheet is designed for you to evaluate your child’s life. Do so honestly. If you want to evaluate your life, then replace school with work. It should still be helpful.
If you have little time for things like rest or God, a hard decision is in store for you.
Will you allow yourself to remain too busy for God?
